Former Professional Make-up Artist
It’s nice to meet you! I’m Jennifer, former pro makeup artist! I show women who want to start using organic make-up the best organic makeup products and how to use them.
If you’re tired of putting a slew of chemicals on your face, I have organic makeup reviews that will help! I understand what the best organic makeup products are out there and know what to buy and what to avoid.
So, what makes me a makeup pro?
Well, at 17 years old, I became the youngest ever makeup artist accepted as a member of IATSE Local 798. This is the official union for Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists, out of New York. Shortly afterwards in July 1988, I began working on the film, Steel Magnolias.
Graduating from high school in 3 years, I took correspondence courses in my junior year to complete my credits. Then I studied as an apprentice with a local makeup artist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I grew up.
I went on to work on other films and other commercials before putting my professional makeup career on pause. It was then I had decided to attend the University of New Orleans.
As a make-up artist and on a private appointment basis, I have taught many women how to wear makeup. I used techniques taught to me by other makeup artists. Once, I had the pleasure of working with one of the famous Westmore makeup artists’ family. It was Monty Westmore during the filming of Blaze, another film I worked on.)
So, then, why have I chosen to talk about organic makeup?
I am a flat out eco-woman warrior! I have my own officially woman owned small business, The Organic Handkerchiefs Company, which I have personally run since 2007.
For over a decade, I have been passionate about organic food, natural makeup and living life less processed and wasteful. As a purist, I eat “real food” as possible using the 90/10 rule of not eating any processed foods. I have a vegetable garden and a back yard of woodlands that I leave wild for nature to thrive.
Then, in 2014, my husband and I even started an Airbnb so that others could share in the wonder of nature. My property is called Woodlands Guesthouse. It is the number 1 most wish-listed property in Tallahassee Florida. Lastly, I also keep only natural, organic and/or eco-friendly items in the guesthouse.
I’ve done it all from making my own candles and soap, learning to sew, crochet and living a simpler life. I am originally from Louisiana. As an adult I lived in England for 17 years. Then, in 2014 I moved back to the states, to Florida. My parents now live with me so I can look after them in their golden years.
I brought my husband and daughter with me. Together, we all live with my adopted rescue dog, Magic.
Living in harmony with nature and with family has inspired me to continue my organic living journey. So, I hope you will enjoy my organic, natural makeup, skin care and hair care reviews and pro makeup artist tips. I can’t wait to show them to you!
